Published on: April 11, 2025

On Friday, 11 April, Slovenian Migration Institute hosted a symposium on migration and development in Central and South-Eastern Europe since the late nineteenth century. The event was the first meeting in the frame of the German-Slovenian bilateral programme, which brings together Slovenian Migration Institute and the Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Studies in Regensburg. Morever, the symposium also formed part of the research project “Between the ‘Tenth Banovina’ and the ‘Seventh Republic’: States and Diasporas in the First and the Second Yugoslavia” and the programme group, both run by the Slovenian Migration Institute. The members of the German-Slovenian group discussed the impact of emigrant remittances on the environments of origin, the role of transnational ties in caring for elderly migrants, former guest workers in Germany, the situation and role of cross-border care workers in Italy, and other issues.
