Creation of Memory and Preservation of Cultural Identity among Slovenian Emigrants and Their Descendents

The goal of the project is to analyze elements that preserve cultural identity, and to present variegated ways in which an individual or an entire nation act (or acted) in contemporary or past reality of composed identities and heterogeneous national and cultural spaces. The second goal is to create a foundation for an archive of Slovenian migrants' oral history that can then develop through future contributions. The project will enable a synthesis of the hitherto completed smaller field-research projects in a way that will make them as accessible as possible to the wider audience, both in printed form and on-line. The materials will be suitable for academic, educational and general purposes, and will also be made available through the web portal Slovenci.si, which reserves space for such testimonies.
