Before the independence of Slovenia, the literary production of Slovene emigrants had been scarcely researched into by literary historians in Slovenia. The selection of émigré authors known in Slovenia had been more or less defined by political interests of the socialist Yugoslav State. With the help of a comprehensive overview of the literary production of Slovene emigrants in all parts of the world from the earliest beginnings until nowadays, we wished to enable and stimulate a more adequate integration of Slovene émigré literature into central Slovene cultural media, literary science and educational contents. The results of the project include about 100 scholarly and specialized articles published in Slovenia and abroad. The main result of the project was a comprehensive overview titled Slovenska izseljenska književnost (Slovene Émigré Literature), Ljubljana: ZRC Publishing and Rokus, 1999, book 1: Europe, Australia, Asia, 400 pp.; book 2: North America, 484 pp.; book 3: South America, 407 pp. (16 authors).
