Slovenians in Kosovo (project supported by the Office for Slovenians Abroad)
Principal Investigator at ZRC SAZU

Duration
3 January 2011–31 December 2011
The project was conceived as the base of a wider research into the migration of Slovenians to Kosovo, which will include both historical perspectives of migration as well as recent business or professional migration in this part of Europe. It started in March 2010 by establishing contacts with relevant institutions, associations and individuals in Kosovo, Serbia and Slovenia, from whom we tried to get relevant information and create a list of Slovenians who came to Kosovo in the past and stayed there permanently. Due to events in Kosovo in 1999 and further on, it is difficult to get detailed information, and that is why collecting them is still pending.
A further aim of the project would be integration of all Slovenians living in Kosovo (in different areas – economy, culture, sports, etc.), which until now, despite the initiatives in the past and the present has not been realized yet. An idea has also emerged concerning the possibility of establishing a Slovenian society in Kosovo which would formalize this integration. It would associate those who are permanently settled in Kosovo as well as those who live there temporarily.
