Publication of the Final Report and Guidelines for Inclusive Coworking Spaces RES-MOVE Project
The RES-MOVE project partnership—co-funded by the EU Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF)—has published two key documents as part of the project’s final research phase. RES-MOVE explores how coworking and collaborative spaces can support migrant integration by promoting professional development and social inclusion.
The newly released Final Field Research Report examines how these spaces impact migrant inclusion, particularly in rural areas. Accompanying the report are the Guidelines for Inclusive Coworking Spaces, offering hands-on recommendations based on research findings for designing environments that are welcoming and supportive of migrants.
The research included field studies across eleven regions in the EU, involving interviews with 115 migrants and 101 coworking space representatives. The findings highlight both the opportunities and the challenges these spaces face in contributing to integration policies. The report notes that coworking spaces centred on community-building play a leading role in developing mentorships and inclusive partnerships. In contrast, more commercially oriented coworking spaces often lack the infrastructure needed to support migrant integration effectively.
Common barriers include financial constraints, language difficulties, and the underestimation of migrants' skills and knowledge. However, the research also points to promising practices, such as collaborations with NGOs and local authorities, as key to creating more inclusive environments.
The final report provides essential insights for policymakers and coworking space organisers. These are summarised in the Guide to Inclusive Coworking Spaces: Guidelines for Creating and Strengthening “Inclusive Coworking Spaces” (ICS). The guide offers practical advice for fostering inclusion and emphasises the importance of collaboration between coworking spaces, public institutions, and private enterprises to develop sustainable integration models.
By understanding and implementing these guidelines, coworking and collaborative spaces can become powerful drivers of social cohesion and economic empowerment for people with migration backgrounds. The RES-MOVE project ultimately aims to promote inclusion, create equal opportunities, and open innovative pathways for migrants’ social and economic integration.
