The Condition of Archival, Museum and Library Materials among Slovenian Emigrants in Germany

Description

According to “The Law on Relations between the Republic of Slovenia and Slovenians Outside its Borders” (Official Gazette No. 43, 21 April 2006), the state is responsible for the preservation of Slovenian archival and cultural heritage that originates in Slovenian communities around the world. Special emphasis is put on the professional assistance and education of emigrants, who would take care of the sorting, documenting and storing of archival and museum materials. On top of that, a research analysis and comparison of fieldwork done so far on emigrant archival and museum materials would be in the best interest of the country.

Research methods will include: fieldwork, providing direct assistance to societies with sorting (emphasizing education), oral methods (interviews), an analysis of historiographical, sociological, cultural-anthropological data, and other approaches. The main goal is to survey the state of, and create a strategy for Slovenia, regarding the mentioned segments of life and work of Slovenians around the world.
